The
increasing ethnic diversity, of not only the Urban centers of America but its
rural areas as well, demands that a local church in a changing community transition
from a monocultural to a multicultural ministry in order to reach the nations
among us with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mutli
Cultural Ministry desires to serve the Church of Jesus Christ by creating an environment
for a healthy co-existence between multiple ethnic groups in one church. We strive
to accomplish this by assisting the local church in developing:
1.
A Spirit of Unity, from the pastor of the local church to his leadership and the
members of the congregation. We do not proceed with our ministry until there is
a spirit of unity by the constituency of the local church (Rom. 15:5; 12:16; Phil.
2:2-3). This unity provides the commitment to overcome any issues the church may
later face.
2.
A Covenant, or written agreement that deals with the primary issues
that must
be agreed to before the local church can host or sponsor
an ethnic church.
These issues are...
-Organizational Structure -Membership -Facility Use
-Leadership Structure -Finances -Time
-Church Extension
1.
It teaches the local church how to love and live with their neighbor. The Scriptures
teach that we are to love one another (John 17:21,23), and our neighbor as ourselves
(Luke 10:27). The growing ethnic diversity of our cities is fertile soil for ethnic
strife. Churches with multicultural ministries can help bring reconciliation.
2.
It permits for the evangelization of all levels of assimilation within the immigrant
community (Acts 1:8). Our goal is to maintain the English speaking community of
a local church by serving the assimilated ethnic (second and subsequent generations)
and start a ministry in the language and culture of the immigrants in the community.
3.
It improves stewardship. Inner city facilities used by immigrant communities are
limited, unsuited for church use, and expensive. Established churches rarely maximize
the use of their facilities throughout the week. A Multicultural local church
can significantly reduce expenses for denominations by partnering with existing
immigrant church plants, thereby maximizing their facility use.
